David & Rita Nelson Family Interactive Garden

The David and Rita Nelson Family Interactive Garden at the Kaukauna Public Library opened its gates on October 4, 2019 after five years of planning. Additional sponsors of the space include: The Stumpf Family Foundation (Amphitheater), Bank of Kaukauna (Art Classroom), Jane Kaufman in Memory of Albert and Margaret Schmidt Family (Music Classroom), the Kaukauna Community Family of Funds of the Fox Cities Region (Archaeology Classroom), Kaukauna Utilities (Biology Classroom), Milbach Construction Services Inc. (History Classroom), and VanZeeland Manufacturing Inc. (Literacy Classroom). The garden features: a butterfly garden (which also brings in a fair amount of bees), a play water pump, raised bed planters, a sandbox (complete with dinosaur bones) an amphitheater, a play canoe, a historic overlook, a slinky tunnel, seating, outdoor musical instruments, as well as many laminated picture books to enjoy together.   

The Garden is open daily from 5:00a-11:00p and is monitored through video surveillance. Please observe the following when visiting:

  • No pets
  • No smoking, alcohol, or drugs
  • No weapons
  • No skateboards, scooters, bicycles, or roller blades
  • No hanging on the slinky tunnel
  • Please do not step on plants
  • Children under the age of nine must be supervised by an adult at all times
  • Please use trash and recycle bins
  • Shoes and shirt are required
  • Garden use is at own risk

The Library Appropriate Use Policy extends to the Garden space. Use of the Garden is a privilege, not a right. The Library reserves the right to remove or ban violators from the space.
